My collection has developed from something of a "family history" in the aircraft industry. My parents met during World War II service in the RAF. Both were aircraft engineers, my mother, Rita, based in England (generally at flight training centers), my father, Alan, being posted to the "far east". After the war, my father continued in the RAF until 1954, after which we emigrated to Australia. There, he worked in the airline (Airlines of WA, MacRobertson Miller Airlines) and general aviation (Agricultural and General Aviation) sectors.

He took a camera with him when he went overseas during the war, and I regard some of his photos as historical treasures - the beautiful Hurricane shot is one, but the blurry Ki-57 is too, because images of this aircraft are almost non-existent on the Internet. (Many of the photos reflect the less-than-ideal processing conditions where he worked).

His interests rubbed off on me, and we lived close to Perth Airport, so with a sequence of cameras I ended up taking a fair set of my own photos. I joined the Australian air cadets in 1964, later continuing as an instructor until 1970, and as a result I extended my set of photos greatly (partly interest, partly necessity, partly opportunity); most of my collection dates from this period.
