12/08/2003. Remarks by Dave Simpson: "This 1947 built Luscombe 8E, was in 1999 fitted out with a 150 hp Apex Turbine by DLAHF in Chandler, Arizona, USA. Of note is this concept had originally been designed by engineers at Luscombe / Temco in 1950, but they never completed the project. The Aerofiles says the turbine conversion performed very well, comparable to regular 150 hp piston engined airframe. Having flown a Luscombe 8A with a 125 hp engine, this airframe must have been quite spectacular indeed to have flown. The aircraft is still listed on the FAA database but now with a reciprocating engine and the owner is listed as Laurie Eder and Douglas Combs of Gilbert, Arizona." |
