06/05/2005. Remarks by Dan Shumaker: "The one and only Aeronca LW. It was the prototype for the L series Aeroncas (LA, powered by a 70 hp LeBlond, LB powered by an 85 hp LeBlond, LC powered by a 90 hp Warner). It was first flown with a two cylinder 40 hp Aeronca E-113-C engine, which proved to be underpowered. According to the Juptner book, it had to fly a many mile out before it was high enough to turn around. The engine was replaced with a 60 hp LeBlond."
