Walter van Tilborg: "Designed by American Aviation Corporation, the AA-5 was a larger four-seat development of the
AA-1 and powered by an 150 hp Lycoming O-320 engine, the prototype made the first flight on 21 August 1970. Production was started in 1971, this was later continued by
Grumman American (1972), Gulfstream American (1978) and finally by Gulfstream Aerospace (1982), before all production rights went to American General Aircraft Inc. (1989), the type being redesignated
AG-5B. From 2001, the AG-5B was built by Tiger Aircraft, LLC. Production ended in 2006, a total of 3,289 being built by the six companies."
