Delivered to the RAF as MK297 by Vickers-Armstrong at Castle Bronwich
in 1944. Handed over to the RNethAF's in May 1947.
With the RNethAF, it was registered as H-64 and H-109. Thereafter it
served with the Belgian AF from June 1953 till 1954, struck off charge after
an accident on March 10, 1954. It was registered as OO-ARB between May
5, 1956 and May 27, 1964. Sold to the UK it was registered G-ASSD.
May 1965 it was sold again, this time to the Confederate AF
of Texas, but stayed in Europ for filming. It was damaged
during filming of the Battle Of Britain, at North Weald, May 17, 1968.
In November 1968 it was shipped to the USA, registered as N1882 and
restored by the CAF, being reregistered as N9BL in June 1973.
Dissaster struck again on May 15, 1981, when it was damaged in a crash
at Palacois, Texas. Restored it flew again until it was destroyed in
a hanger fire at Hamilton, Ontario, on February 15, 1993. |
