Born in 1952, Johan's interest in aircraft began in earnest in 1968 when he joined an aviation organisation located at Twenthe AFB in the Netherlands. There he built an extensive library of information for the use of the members and conducted an aircraft recognition training program. In 1986 Johan took part an annual national recognition contest, achieving 3rd place. Johan has written aviation articles for a number of publications and supplied material to others for publication, such as Aerofax/Aerophiles of Jay Miller (Austin, TX), Flieger Revue (Germany), IAPA-Report (Danmark), Herkenning (the Netherlands), etc.
Johan's greatest interest is in non-series production, experimental, research, and one-off aircraft. His long-range goal is to publish a manual of basic recognition information for all powered and flown aircraft, but acknowledges that "with the boom in microlights this will probably be impractical to do."
Johan is the researcher of the site and is responsible for the editorial part of the site, in particular for the creation and maintenance of "History Briefs" associated with many of the aircraft pictured on 1000aircraftphotos.com. History Briefs describe the development of the aircraft and provides basic specifications. View these concise informative pages where you see this:
