09/30/2006. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This C-119B-FA was assigned to one of the three squadrons of the 403d Troop Carrier Wing, Medium, in 1952. This wing had been activated in the Air Force Reserve on May 10, 1949 and based at Portland Airport, Oregon, USA. Ordered to active service on April 1, 1951, the wing transitioned from the Curtiss C-46 Commando to the C-119B in 1952 and was transferred to Ashiya AB, Japan, on April 14, 1952 and assigned to the Eighteenth Air Force and attached to the 315th Air Division (Combat Cargo). The wing transported troops and supplies to Korea until inactivated on January 1, 1953. The wing was reactivated in the Air Force Reserve on January 1, 1953 at Portland International Airport and equipped with C-46s." |
