Remarks by Jack McKillop:
"One of two built, this experimental aircraft was designed to
test the practicality of vertical take off and landings from a trailer
that would transport it. The trailer bed would be raised to a
vertical position and the aircraft, which was equipped with a hook
under the fuselage that connected to a cable on the trailer bed,
would be started and take off in a vertical position. Once airborne,
the aircraft would transition to horizontal flight and complete its
mission. On landing, the aircraft would transition from horizontal to
vertical flight and maneuver to place the hook over the cable. This
aircraft made the first full-cycle flight on April 11, 1957 at
Edwards AFB, California, USA. It was transferred to the AF Museum
in May 1959. View also photo 718."
