11/30/2011. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This Douglas Model DC-4 was delivered to the USAAF as a C-54A-5-DC Skymaster, 41-72184 on March 17, 1944. The aircraft was delivered to the Douglas El Segundo, California plant for conversion to a sleeper aircraft on June 29, 1946 and upon completion was registered to Pan American Airways (renamed Pan American World Airways on January 3, 1950) as NC88935 and delivered on June 13, 1947 named "Clipper Northern Light"; it was subsequently renamed "Clipper Northwind" and later "Clipper Derby".
On December 4, 1961, the aircraft was sold to the Southern Rhodesian company Witwatersrand Native Labour Association (WNLA) and reregistered VP-YTU. WNLA was set up by the gold mines in South Africa as a recruiting agency for migrant workers. It was withdrawn from use in 1968 and probably scrapped."
