05/20/2003. Remarks by Carlo Soliani: "The photograph depicts a special type of SM.79, the SM.79T (Transatlantico, Transatlantic), used as racing and record-breaking aircraft before the war. Three aircraft of this type (I-BISE, I-BRUN, I-MONI) in January 1938 flew from Guidonia (Rome, Italy) to Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) with an average speed of 404 kmh (251 mph)."
