Republic RC-3 Seabee

04/30/2011. Remarks by Bob Cieslak: "The first photo was taken in the summer of 1948 at the St. Louis riverfront on the Mississippi River levee. The present day St. Louis Gateway Arch now stands at this location. This seaplane base did a thriving business at that time. They had three airplanes - a Republic Seabee, a Piper Family Cruiser on floats and a Piper J-3 Cub on floats (NC87941). They could take up 1 passenger, 2 passengers or 3 passengers for $5.00 a head - and there was a waiting line for rides. My Dad, Mom and I took a 20 minute ride over St. Louis in the Seabee with a hard splash-down landing in the river. The words on the side of the fuselage says 'PETTY Marine Flying Service'."
