Convair 880-22M

02/28/2008. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "The 880-22M was the intercontinental version of the 880-22, and the pictured airliner was delivered to JAL on January 21, 1961. Ten years later, on April 28, Sakura (Cherry Blossom) was stricken from the Japanese register and registered in the USA as N5865, initially to Boeing but not used, instead it went to Aero American Corp. It was reregistered to N1RN and subsequently sold to the leasing company IAL.

Leased to Freelandia in April 1973, already in July 1973 it received its former registration N5865 again; it was returned to the lessor in December 1973. Subsequently it was leased briefly to Compass and from February 1976 to Air Trine. On December 16, 1976, it was destroyed at Miami, Florida, from September 8, 1978 it was used as a fire trainer, and its remains were scrapped October 4, 1981."
