Grumman G-50 F6F-5 Hellcat

02/28/2007. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "This aircraft was delivered to the US Navy with BuNo 94204 on July 27, 1945, soon thereafter it was placed in storage. It appeared several times for shorter or longer periodes of time, while being moved across the USA. It was decleared surplus on July 9, 1957 and sold for scrap to the Normandie Iron and Metal Company in 1959. In the same year it was sold to Ed Maloney to be added to the collection at his “The Air Museum”, being registered as N4998V.

It changed hands a few times, being displayed statically from 1972 on. After being acquired by the Lone Star Flight Museum, it took over two years to restore it to flying condition. The aircraft was finished the markings of US Navy ace Commander Alex Vraciu while serving in with VF-16. It was flown again on May 4 and still is shown at Galveston, Texas."
