10/31/2009. Produced as a Swearingen SA226AC Merlin IV in 1979, registered N5498M c/n AT-70, in 1986 the aircraft was converted into a Metro III (c/n AC421B, the suffix 'B' indicating a heavy duty landing gear) test bed for the Ericsson FSR-890 Erieye SLAR (Side-Looking Airborne Radar).
The roof-mounted SLAR and additional equipment installed in the fuselage were powered by a belly-mounted APU (Auxiliary Power Unit). The aircraft could still be used as a fifteen-seat transport.
Delivered to the Swedish AF on October 1, 1987, designated Tp 88C and allotted s/n 88003, it was flown from Malmen, Sweden for several years, developing the SLAR for adaption in the Saab 340B, of which the Swedish AF bought six as S 100 Airborne Early Warning aircraft.
The Tp 88C was withdrawn from use in 1998, being registered in Sweden as SE-LIM on February 27, but was sold the following month, March 31, 1998 to Roland Air of Bremen, Germany, registered D-COLD. Presently it is registered to OLT (Ostfriesische Lufttransport) of Emden, Germany.
