Two went to NACA's Langley Aeronautical Laboratory at Langley Field, Hampton, Virginia, and two went to NACA's Ames Aeronautical Laboratory, NAS Moffett Field, Sunnyvale, California. BuNo. 04971 was assigned to NACA's Ames facilities on May 18, 1945, and used for flying qualities, stability and control, and performance evaluations.
