Vultee 79A SNV-2 Valiant

02/28/2010. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Procurement of 1,350 SNV-1 basic trainers (BuNos. 02983 to 03182, 05675 to 05874, 12492 to 12991, 34135 to 34584) by the USN began with an order dated August 28, 1940. These Vultee Model 74s had Pratt & Whitney R-985-AN-1 radial engines and were equivalent to the USAAC BT-13As.

The USN also obtained 650 Model 79A SNV-2s (BuNos. 44038 to 44187, 52050 to 52549), which differed only in having 24-volt electric systems. These were BT-13Bs diverted from USAAF contracts (s/n 44-32011 to 44-23160, 44-31511 to 44-32010 respectively), hence the pictured SNV-2 with USN Flight Instructor Keith F. Lawler in rear cockpit, was produced under the USAAF s/n 44-31695 as a BT-13B."
