01/22/2007. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "In 1947, the USAAF accepted 28 Bell Model 47A helicopters as YR-13-BEs. Ten of these helicopters were subsequently transferred to the USN as HTL-1s for evaluation purposes. The USN then transferred two to the USCG which based them at USCG Air Station New York, New York (Floyd Bennett Field in Brooklyn). The USCG used them for anti-smuggling, sabotage, harbor pollution and other maritime crimes in New York harbor. One of the USCG HTL-1s crashed in December 1952 and the second was disposed of in January 1955."
