03/31/2008. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "The O-38 was built around a fuselage similar to the Douglas O-25 series and powered by a 525 hp Pratt & Whitney Hornet R-1690-3 nine-cylinder, single row, air cooled radial engine. Forty five O-38s were built for National Guard observation squadrons and was the first satisfactory aircraft operated by the Guard. It remained in service for ten years.

This aircraft was assigned to the 102d Observation Squadron, New York National Guard and based at Miller Field, New Dorp, Staten Island, New York City. The squadron provided divisional aviation for the 27th Division, New York National Guard."
