01/31/2011. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Ordered by the Government of Zambia, this aircraft, produced as a Model 382B, was delivered to in April 1967, and registered 9J-REZ it was leased to Zambian Air Cargoes (ZAC), although it never wore the airline titles. This airline already operated four L-100s (9J-RBW, 9J-RBX, 9J-RCV, 9J-RCY, respectively c/n 4129, 4137, 4101, 4109), and all five were mainly used for the transport of copper from N'dola, Zambia to Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. 9J-RCY collided with 9J-RBX during taxiing at N'dola on April 11, 1968, and both aircraft were destroyed in the ensuing fire.
A year later, the surface transport of copper had improved, the copper price had plummeted and subsequently Zambian Air Cargoes ended operations on March 31, 1969. In March 1969, 9J-RBW and 9J-RCY were registered in Canada and the USA, to respectively Pacific Western (CF-PWN) and Alaska Airlines (N101AK). The following month the pictured 9J-REZ was sold to National Aircraft Leasing, and registered N921NA it was leased to Interior Airways. In July 1972 it was leased to Alaska International Air, and reregistered N100AK.
In February 1973, the aircraft was damaged on ice island T-3, 620 mls (1,000 km) north of Point Barrow, Alaska, after repairs it was sold by the insurance company to Alaska International Air. The aircraft was lost at Galbraith Lake Airport on August 30, 1974, while unloading its cargo (fuel), the aircraft exploded and was damaged beyond repair."
