Binder CP.301 S Smaragd

12/31/2013. Remarks by Walter van Tilborg: "Schempp-Hirth in Kirchheim/Teck, Germany, built under license a small number of the French Piel CP.301 Emeraude, later Binder Aviatik in Donaueschingen designed an own development, the CP.301 S Smaragd. This was based on the Piel CP.301 C Emeraude but had increased operating weights and was externally distinguishable by the small dorsal fillet and also featured a sliding canopy.

Powered by a 90 hp Continental C90-12F and registered D-EBIA (c/n 100), the first example was flown in March 1960 and 21 were constructed (c/n 100 to 120) in a cooperation between Binder and Schempp-Hirth. In addition some nine were built as homebuilt project from Binder-supplied parts or plans."
