09/30/2014. Remarks by Walter van Tilborg: "This was the eighth original homebuilt aircraft designed by Frenchman Jean Van Lith. The aircraft was of wooden construction, covered entirely with plywood, with a fixed landing gear. Van Lith started construction in 1983 and it was first flown on May 26, 1984, powered by a 68 hp Limbach SL1700.
The sole Van Lith VIII was involved in an accident on July 18, 1987. During take off from Cannes the aircraft developed engine problems and it crashed into the sea about 90 ft (30 m) from the coast, killing the pilot Jean Vignaud. The aircraft was written off and the registration was cancelled on October 29, 1987."
