04/30/2008. Remarks by Walter van Tilborg: "The one-of-a-kind X-5 first flew in 1977 and it had an 125 hp Lycoming O-290-GPU engine (basically a GPU-ground power unit modified for aircraft use). The single-seat X-5 was designed and built by Ike Eichblatt (his fifth design).

The aircraft was lost in a fatal accident on April 19, 1992, in Fort Worth, Texas, USA. According the NTSB the probable cause(s) were: "The loss of engine power for undetermined reasons and an inadvertently stall. A factor was the pilot's lack of familiarity with the airplane." The aircraft was stricken from the register on August 26, 1992."
