08/31/2007. The Hunter was designed to Specification F.3/48 issued in March 1948. The pictured aircraft was the first prototype flown on July 20, 1951, by Squadron Leader Neville Duke. It was the same aircraft, rebuilt as a F.Mk.3 and flown by the same pilot, that established a new world's absolute speed record at 727.6 mph (1,170.959 kmh) on September 7, 1953. |
