It was powered by four 18,000 lb (8,165 kg) static thrust Pratt & Whitney JTD-3 or -3B turbofan engines and a maximum gross take off weight of 325,000 lb (147,418 kg). It was sometimes named 'Jet Trader'.

JA8014 was delivered to the Japanese airline JAL (Japan Air Lines) of Tokyo, named “Asama” on March 5, 1965. It was sold to the Panamanian airline Inair Panama (Internacional de Aviacion) of Panama City on June 16, 1982 and registered HP-950. It was next sold to the aircraft broker FB Ayer & Associates of Miami, Florida, USA on June 30, 1985 and registered N55FB. On July 31, 1985, it was sold to Agro Air International of Miami.

For the next 15-years, it was leased to various companies: Aerochago Airlines of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (February 1986 to June 30, 1988) who subleased it to Tropical Airways of Smyrna, Tennessee (May 2 to June 1988), Belize Air International of Belize (August 1, 1990 to January 1, 1992), Fine Air of Miami on April 15, 1992, in the mean time being converted to an all-cargo aircraft. Fine Air merged with Arrow Air of Miami on September 26, 2000 and they withdrew this aircraft from use and stored it at Miami. It was subsequently placed in storage at Roswell, New Mexico in September 2001.

It was sold to Miami Leasing on December 29, 2006, the aircraft was registered to the new owner on May 3, 2007, although reportedly it is withdrawn from use and stored at Roswell, New Mexico."
