09/30/2007. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This aircraft was registered G-APVH by the manufacturer on July 3, 1959 and made its first flight on July 20. It was delivered to the US airline Riddle Airlines on June 22, 1961 registered N6504R. The aircraft was sold to Capitol Airways of Nashville, Tennessee, in July 1962 and then to Zantop Air Transport on July 1, 1964. Zantop was acquired by Universal Consolidated Industries and renamed Universal Airlines on September 21, 1966 and reregistered N891U.

The aircraft was sold to Duncan Aviation, Inc., of Lincoln, Nebraska, in May 1972 and then sold it to the US Department of Interior in July 1972. On May 19, 1974, this aircraft took off from Campbell Airstrip, Anchorage, Alaska, en route to Aniak Airport, Aniak, Alaska, but the take off from runway 20 was aborted because the aircraft was unable to get airborne. The Argosy overran by 630 m (2,067 ft) and ended up in a wooded area, catching fire. It appeared that the take off was attempted with the external gust-locks installed on the elevator. All six aboard were killed."
