01/22/2007. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This 240 was delivered to Swissiar on February 17, 1949 registered HB-IRT and named 'Appenzell'. It returned to the USA and was sold to Mohawk Airlines on October 10, 1956 registered N1018C and named 'Airchief Pequot'. It was leased to Transocean Airlines from November 1, 1956 to April 15, 1957 and sold to the Fairchild Hiller Corp. on December 12, 1966. Southwestern Skyways purchased it on April 25, 1968 and then sold it to Permian Skyways on October 24, 1968 and it was reregistered N280P on November 30, 1968. It was repossessed by the bank holding the note on the aircraft on July 30, 1969. It passed through three other companies and was seized in 1975 by the Sheriff of Salt Lake County. It was placed in storage in 1978 and purchased by the Castle Museum Foundation in June 1999. It is currently on display at the Castle Air Museum in the markings of a USCG HC-131A. Castle Air Museum is located adjacent to Castle Airport (former Castle AFB), Atwater, California, located about 105 mls (169 km) east-southeast of San Francisco." |
