08/31/2017. Remarks by
Johan Visschedijk: "Seventeen of these utility transport amphibians were purchased by the Navy between 1937 and 1939, including two for the Marine Corps. Similar to the commercial
Sikorsky S-43, the all-metal JRS-1s had two 750 hp Pratt & Whitney R-1690-52 engines and seated up to nineteen. The Marine JRS-1s (BuNos. 1060, 1061) served with squadrons VMJ-1 and VMJ-2; the Navy had fifteen (BuNos. 0504 to 0506, 1054 to 1059, 1062, 1063, 1191 to 1194) including eight assigned to Utility Squadron One (VJ-1) at San Diego. Only one remained by the end of 1941."
