12/31/2011. Remarks by
Johan Visschedijk: "In 1925, Douglas was instructed to complete one of the 46
O-2s ordered under the original contract for 75 machines as a prototype for an attack aircraft. The XA-2 was powered by a 420 hp Liberty V-1410 twelve-cylinder air-cooled inverted V-engine and was armed with six forward-firing 0.30 in (7.62 mm) machine guns (two in the upper engine cowling, two in the upper wings, and two in the lower wings) and twin flexible 0.30 in (7.62 mm) machine guns in the rear cockpit. Completed in 1926, the aircraft was tested against the Curtiss XA-3. The competition was won by the Curtiss aircraft and the XA-2 was not proceeded with."
