Heinkel He 111 H-16

04/15/2018. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Coded "2B+DC" this aircraft was initially operated by the 2./Einsatzgruppe der 2. Fliegerschuldivision of the Luftwaffe. Subsequently it was transferred to the air force of German ally Hungary, still wearing Luftwaffe markings. On December 9, 1944, the aircraft took off from Pápa AB, some 70 mls (113 km) west of Budapest, and flew to San Severo, Italy. After landing the defecting Hungarian pilot surrendered, with him were his wife, child and some other civilians. The aircraft was transferred to the USA where it was coded "FE-1600", later "T2-1600". Still listed on May 16, 1946, the aircraft was probably scrapped at Freeman Field, Seymour, Indiana, the same year."
