de Havilland D.H.82A Tiger Moth

02/28/2019. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "After the RAAF had withdrawn the last Tiger Moths from service in the 1950s, RAAF's remaining Tiger Moth spare parts stock was sold to the Lawrence Engineering and Sales Pty. Ltd. at Camden, New South Wales. From the spare parts the company assembled eleven new aircraft between 1959 and 1962, they were allotted the new construction number sequence LES.1 to LES.11.

Registered VH-WET on July 14, 1961, the aircraft above was completed in a single-seat agricultural configuration for Airland Improvements at Cootamundra. On December 23, 1965, the aircraft was sold to Alan H. Baker of Wee Waa, Baker had it reregistered as VH-BUG on August 9, 1966. In October 1973 the aircraft was severely damaged by a wind storm, a year later, November 14, 1974, the aircraft was deregistered.

June 6, 1975 the damaged aircraft was sold to Barry Hills of Adelaide, South Australia, and a long-term restoration was started. The unfinished aircraft was reregistered by Hills as VH-BUG on March 1, 2001, February 21, 2005, Joachim 'Joe' Günther of Adelaide became the new owner. Three months later, May 15, 2005, the aircraft was finally flown again after thirty years of restoration. Owner Günther moved to Hamburg, Germany in 2007, but regularly returns to Australia to fly his Tiger Moth."
