04/30/2008. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "This aircraft was the first production Comet Series 2 that was first flown on August 27, 1953, registered as G-AMXA. Sold to the RAF on March 2, 1955, it was converted by Marshalls of Cambridge to a Comet R.Mk.2, the electronic intelligence gathering (ELINT) version. On April 23, 1958, it was delivered to the RAF and operated by 192 Squadron (renumbered to 51 Squadron) till August 1, 1974.
It was sold to the Strathallan Collection and flown to their grass airfield at Auchterarder on August 28, suffering an landing gear collapse upon landing. Strathallan was closed in 1990 and the aircraft was scrapped, the nose and cockpit section was displayed, first at Gatwick Airport, presently at the Al Mahatta Museum, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates."
