Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "This aircraft was the last of the first batch of thirty aircraft (serialed W8405 to W8434) built for the RAF, upon delivery in 1941 it was immediately transferred to RCAF 413 (GR) "Tusker" Squadron and coded 'QL-F'. Newly formed at RAF Stranrear, Scotland, July 1, 1941, the squadron moved to RAF Sullom Voe, Shetland Islands, the following October.
During took off for a night solo flight by RCAF Flying Officer J.H. Baldrey on January 2, 1942, the flying boat hit the mast-mounted beacon light on the rock island Ungam in the middle of taking-off and landing area. The pilot lost control and crashed, the aircraft was written-off, fortunately the pilot escaped injuries."
