This type assigned to the 1st Airborne Command and Control Squadron is configured as an Advanced Airborne National Command Post (AABNCP) for the President of the US (as Commander-in-chief of US Forces) and the National Command Authority (NCA). The first E-4A first flew on June 13, 1973 and was delivered in December 1974, to the 1st ACCS/55th Wing at Offutt AFB, Nebraska, USA. The fourth aircraft, configured as E-4B, was delivered on December 21, 1979; thereafter the first three were upgraded to the E-4B standard. There are 4 E-4B, s/ns 73-1676, 73-1677, 74-0787 and 75-0125.
