Johan Visschedijk: "In beautiful but untypical markings (as the four USCG N3N-3s were all yellow) this primary trainer was built for the USN under the BuNo. 2582, in 1940. Alike over 800 out of 816 built this
"Yellow Pearl" (as the type was nicknamed by trainees) came on the civil registry after the type was withdrawn from service by 1960. Registered N45042 it received a
CofA on May 19, 1977, on August 20, 1985 it was reregistered to Terry R. Brandt of Hood River, Oregon. On February 8, 2007, the aircraft was reregistered to the Western Antique Aeroplane & Automobile Museum at Hood River."
