Linn L-1 Mini-Mustang

03/31/2008. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Charles "Bud" C. Linn worked for Northrop during WW II and from 1954 to 1972 for NACA/NASA at Edwards AFB as a metal craftsman. He designed and built the all-metal single-seat L-1 sporting plane that was flown for the first time on January 14, 1962. At the EAA Fly-in at Rockford in 1962, the L-1 was voted the most popular aircraft.

Unfortunately the aircraft crashed a few years later, however a second slightly improved example was built and flown in 1966. Both aircraft were powered by an 125 hp Lycoming O-290-G four-cylinder horizontally-opposed air-cooled engine. Externally differences for the L-2 were the longer canopy, balanced elevators, reshaped engine cowling and air scoop, and a four-blade propeller replacing the two-blade one.

Apart from building aircraft, Bud restored over 20 aircraft."
