09/30/2008. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Proposed to the USN in April 1932 as a two-seat fighter, a contract for a prototype XF3U-1 was awarded June 30, 1932. Flown for the first time on May 9, 1933, development was slow, with tunnel-testing at NACA Langley in November 1933. Eventually the aircraft was developed into the XSBU-1 scout bomber."
