Bell 7 YFM-1 Airacuda

06/15/2006. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This is one of nine YFM-1s assigned to the 10th Air Base Group (Special), Air Corps Technical Training Command, at Chanute Field, Rantoul, Illinois, USA. Only nine out of ten ordered were delivered as one crashed during pre-delivery flight tests. These aircraft were used as instructional airframes for the mechanics being trained at the base. All were eventually scrapped."

08/13/2005. Remarks by Gordon Hubbard: "It had V-1710 turbocharged engines. The crew consisted of pilot and gun control officer in the cockpit and a "gun loader" in the front of each engine nacelle. If bail out became necessary, the engines had to be feathered to prevent killing the crew. In the late 1930s and early 1940s this was about state of the art."
