12/15/2017. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Around D-Day, RAF No. 609 Fighter Squadron and its Typhoons were deployed to RAF Thorney Island on the south coast of the UK. They supported the invasion, attacking surface targets with their four 0.787 in (20 mm) cannon and an external load of bombs (up to 2,000 lb, 908 kg) or eight 60 lb (27 kg) rockets."
(Note: The original print from which Aeroplane Photo Supply copied this image, shows two aircraft.)
