In the USA they were assembled by the Curtiss company and served in British colors with the USAAS. After the Armistice a number of the S.E.5a's continued in service with the USAAS, but a number were also converted by Eberhardt Steel Product of Buffalo, New York into the S.E.5E. Two S.E.5a's went to the USN, however, with the BuNo. A-5588 (ex-D6106) and A-5589: one was carried on a gun turret launching platform on the battleship Mississippi."
