12/31/2007. To develop a fighter for Australia the Hawker P.1052 was fitted with an all-swept tail and a straight-through jet pipe. Redesignated P.1081 the aircraft was flown by Squadron Leader T.S. Wade on June 19, 1950. Several modifications followed, however the Australian project was cancelled on November 14, 1950, and in January 1951 the aircraft was handed over to the RAE for further trials. The aircraft crashed on April 3, 1951, killing the pilot, Squadron Leader Wade.
