01/05/2002. Remarks by Chris Pinn: "VX279 never entered service. Who the 'owner' of the plane was at the time of the photo (the manufacturer, the British government ?) is not determinable. The P1081 was one of the development stages which lead to the Hunter, but it was never called Hunter. The plane in the photo first flew June 19, 1950 and crashed, killing the pilot, April 3, 1951." |
