Original postcard caption:
Braniff ordered six DC-6s in 1946, at a cost of $700,000 each, and placed the first into service on November 5, 1947, on domestic flghts. A push button control converted the 52 specially designed sleeper seats into berths for 32 passengers. The carrier later ordered an additional three aircraft and the nine plane fleet served Braniff until retirement in 1965. Shown here in its final color scheme, the initial delivery DC-6 accepts passengers on a cold December day in 1962, at Kansas City Municipal Airport.
