Johan Visschedijk: "In August 2003 Gulfstream Aerospace of Savannah, Georgia, USA, received a contract to supply four G550 business jets to the Israeli AF, plus options on two more which had been exercised by June 13, 2006. The six aircraft were modified to become Israel's compact airborne early warning (CAEW) platforms.
(N637GA) (
Johan Visschedijk Collection)
Registered N637GA, the first modified aircraft had flown on May 20, 2006 and was delivered to Israel in September 2006 to be fitted with ELTA
ELW-2085 package.
Since 2005 the Israeli AF operates three Gulfstream GVs modified to electronic intelligence (ELINT) platforms. The Israeli AF refers to the nine Gulfstreams as Nachshon, the CAEW version is referred to as Eitam, the ELINT version is referred to as Shavit, hence the also noted designations Nachshon Eitam and Nachshon Shavit. The 122 Squadron that operates the Gulfstreams from Nevatim AB is known as the Nachshon squadron."
