MODEL C-3B

The C-3B was a three-seat, open biplane which could be used for mail or passenger service. Powered by a 200 hp Wright J-5 engine, the first C-3B was produced in 1927 in Wichita, and 136 models were built between 1927 and 1929. The plane gained worldwide recognition in 1932 when Ross Hadley, Los Angeles sportsman, made a tour of the globe in a C-3B. One model of the C-3B was made in 1928 with a 150 h.p. Comet engine.

04/30/2019. Remarks by Dan Shumaker: "The Stearman in the background on the upper photo appears to be the one and only C-3H. Some references have this aircraft listed as being powered by a Menasco-Salmson B-2 which is a converted Salmson Z-9 engine. The Menasco-Salmson B-2 was a conversion of a Salmson Z-9 from water cooled to aircooled. However, the engine in this photo look like the original WW I vintage water cooled Salmson Z-9. Note the forward streamline exhaust collector ring, the radiator between the landing gears and the left handed propeller."
