McKillop: "In 1934, the US airline Pan American Airways was
looking to replace their Sikorsky S-38 amphibians with more modern
aircraft to be used in their Caribbean, South American and China
operations. Fairchild designed the Model 91 to meet Pan American's
specifications. This aircraft was the prototype Model 91 and made its
first flight on April 5, 1935 and after flight tests, it received its
TC on November 22, 1935. |
