04/02/2004. Remarks by Fred Paradie: "NH188 as pictured with the "AU" code is a 421 (RCAF) Squadron aircraft although owned by the RAF. It was also operated by 416 (RCAF) Squadron during WW II. Currently, this is preserved at the Canadian Aviation Museum in Ottawa as 421 (RCAF) Squadron Spitfire (AU-H).
However, it is important to note that this aircraft NEVER served with 421 Squadron according to official RAF records. It is a Spitfire Mk.IX and part of a batch of Spitfires delivered to the RAF between April and June 1944 by Vickers-Armstrong at Castle Bronwich. It did in fact serve with 416 Squadron and was handed over to the RNethAF's 308 Squadron on May 16, 1947. With the RNethAF, it was registered as H-64 and then H-109. Thereafter it served with the Belgian AF from March 1952 till 1954, struck off charge after an accident on April 12, 1954. It was registered as OO-ARC between May 25, 1956 and August 1961. Sold to Canada it was registered CF-NUS and was donated to the Museum in June, 1964."
