From 1938 to 1940 the RNethAAF used 20 S.IX with an 165 hp Armstrong Siddeley Genet Major radial engine. Between May 10 and 15, 1940 some were flown to France, before the surrender of the Dutch forces, to escape capture by the German invaders. The Dutch Navy purchased 15 S.IX with an 168 hp Menasco Buccaneer in-line engine. These were all destroyed at the navy-camp De Kooy."
