07/03/2005. Remarks by Johan Visschedijk: "Lockheed built this aircraft as a demonstrator, registered as N4141A it first flew on May 4, 1966. It made a world demonstration tour and was later sold to NASA as N714NA. It was modified as the "Gerard P. Kuiper Airborne Observatory", carrying an 36 in (0.914 m) infrared telescope in an open cavity just in front of the wing, the closed cavity door is clearly visible. On September 28, 1995 the aircraft was withdrawn from use and is stored at NASA Ames Research Center, Moffett Field, California."
