Johan Visschedijk: "While the continuing development of the
FC-2 was leading to the
FC-2W and eventually to the
Model 71, many of the original FC-2s were being modified into a model known as the 51. Fitted with a 300 hp Wright J-6 Whirlwind engine, the modified aircraft was far superior to the original. In Canada, nine of the sixteen FC-2s of the RCAF were converted to Model 51, and at least one was fitted with fuselage bomb racks in the late 1930s, and saw practice bombing service at Camp Borden."
