02/15/2007. Remarks by Jack McKillop: "This was the 803rd DC-6/DC-7 built and was delivered to Canadian Pacific Airlines (CPAL) of Vancouver, British Columbia, as a DC-6B on April 30, 1957, registered CF-CZS and named "Empress of Montreal". It was leased to British United Airways (BUA) from March 1962 to September 1964 registered G-ARXZ and CPAL re-named it "Empress of Lisbon" when it returned from the lease. This DC-6B was converted to a freighter in 1965 by the installation of cargo doors and reinforced floors and unofficially redesignated DC-6AB. When it returned to service, it was renamed "Empress of Edmonton". This aircraft was sold to Transair Ltd of Winnipeg, Manitoba in March 1969 and then to Greenlandair on June 6, 1972 who reregistered it OY-DRM and named it "Sululik". In May 1979, it was sold to the British airline Air Atlantique and reregistered G-SIXA and operated by that company until withdrawn from use and stored at Manston, Kent, England. The final sale was to a broker who scrapped the aircraft in April 1985." |
